Flat Roofs

Commercial flat & low slope roofs.

Due to its high flexibility, there is a steady increase in demand for flat roofing. These expansive roofs at Red Rhino Roofing can accommodate a wide range of both efficient and economical designs and their durability ensures maximum performance.

Since flat roofs demand a lot fewer materials and much simpler support work, the time it takes to install a flat roof is a lot shorter than a roof with a more complex design. With Red Rhino Roofing, you can rest assured that the installation process will be a lot quicker compared to other roof designs.

Flat roofs are very cost-effective and offer an extremely long life span with little maintenance. Red Rhino Roofs offer many different color choices to choose from with roofing membranes. These can have a significant impact on reducing energy waste and cooling costs due to their reflective properties. We use proven materials that cover these roofs such as those found on factories, warehouses, apartment buildings, and more.

Service Inclusions

FREE Roof Survey

Red Rhino Roofs will perform a FREE roof survey to determine the exact cause and repair process. We perform surveys to document prevailing conditions, core sampling, wind uplift testing, and code and ordinance compliance review. We also assess and identify installed systems/components to analyze if they have been properly maintained.

Budgeting / Cost Forecasting

Lack of roof maintenance can lead to a much larger future capital investment. Allowing your roofing assets to deteriorate beyond repairs or roof recovery could result in thousands of dollars difference in the cost of the eventual roofing project. By taking a proactive approach to roof maintenance, you can catch problems when they’re small enough to fix easily and economically.

Consulting

Our Roof Consultants use the latest testing technology for nuclear moisture detection, thermal imaging, and aerial drones. Highly-skilled Roof Consultantsat Red Rhino Roofs have the capability and experience to perform all of the necessary investigation activities including undertaking intrusive inspections and subsequent materials testing.

Infrared Thermal Imaging Roof Scans

Thermal imaging cameras can create detailed maps of commercial low-slope roofs, showing where excess moisture is trapped, where the source of a leak may be, or where there is soaked or compromised insulation.

Specification Development

The designer must ensure that all of the components of the roof, including the coating, will function well as a system. Roofs are an integral component of the building envelope and roof maintenance typically exceeds 60 percent of the building’s maintenance costs over the life of the structure.

Flat Roofing Systems

We help home and property owners choose from over 5,000 different colors, materials, and performance options to design a roofing system that is energy-efficient, durable, and eye-appealing. Residential roofing systems can be designed to be weather, impact, algae, fire, and wind-resistant.

EPDM

EPDM roofing is leagues ahead of some older traditional flat roof material, such as felt for example. Rubber roofing is suitable for extreme conditions, giving you one of the most durable and reliable roofs available that typically lasts between 30-50 years.

TPO

TPO has gained industry acceptance with the natural reflective surface to reflect UV rays. Thermoplastic Polyolefin is a single-ply roofing membrane that is one of the fastest-growing commercial roofing systems on the market. TPO roofing systems are made up of a single layer of synthetics and reinforcing scrim that can be used to cover flat roofs.

PVC

Polyvinyl Chloride roofing is a single-ply roofing membrane that has been used on flat roofs, besides low-sloped roofs, for more than 50 years. A PVC roof consists of two layers. Polyester is added between the layers to serve as support.

Modified Bitumen

When correctly installed and properly maintained, a modified bitumen roof will be a building’s most durable asset. We recommend 2- or 3-ply systems under roof top patios and decks or in very tight spaces. Cold-adhesive applications and self-adhered plies are newer to the market and offer many benefits.

Built-Up Roofs (BUR)

A built-up roof, most of the time referred to as BUR, is a time-tested roofing system typically comprised of hot tar and gravel. It is made up of many layers and typically the top layer is where the tar and gravel lie. This is a system that has been around and in demand for ages.

Metal Roofing

Installing a metal roof over a flat roof area, over a porch, or for other accent purposes is considered an upgrade. With that in mind, it’s actually fairly common for homeowners to put a metal roof over their flat roof or low slope roof.

Flat Roof Coatings

Silicone Coatings

Silicone coatings, like acrylic coatings, perform well in high UV environments where a reflective roof is desired. Often silicone is used in locations where rain is a daily occurrence, or if the roof is often wet and experiences excessive amounts of ponded water.

Acrylic Coatings

Acrylic water-based coatings are ideal for high UV environments where a reflective roof is desired. They can be colored, but generally are sold in white, tan, and grey. Many specialized versions are made to be compatible with specific substrates.

Asphalt Coatings

Asphalt coatings are either solvent based “cut backs” or emulsions. They can be black or aluminized. They have the ability to be used in cold and inclement weather. Aluminized coatings are used when a reflective and UV stable asphalt coating is needed.

Polyurethane Coatings

Polyurethane coatings are typically solvent based and come in two main types, aromatic (less UV stable) and aliphatic (very UV stable). Urethanes have good mechanical properties and high abrasion resistance. They are suggested for use in hail prone regions or where a roof is exposed to heavy foot traffic.

Other Types Of Roof Coatings

Roof coatings can be made with other resins or combinations of resins. These include, but are not limited to, butyl resins, fluoropolymer, PMMA, polyester, silyl terminated polyether (STPE), polyuria, PUMA, SEBS, and styrene-acrylics.
